Retired Professor Dr Suhail Sabir Donates Rs 50 Lakh to Fund Scholarships for AMU Students

In an extraordinary act of generosity, retired Chemistry professor, Dr Suhail Sabir, has donated Rs 50 lakh to fund scholarships for students at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).
Professor Sabir presented a cheque of Rs 50 lakh to AMU's Finance Officer, Professor Mohd Mohsin Khan. Dr Sabir, who devoted several decades of his career to teaching and research at AMU, expressed his desire to give back to the institution that had shaped his professional life.
"Education is a powerful tool for transformation, and I hope this contribution will help deserving students achieve their academic ambitions," he said.
Professor Mohsin Khan thanked Dr Sabir for his remarkable donation, emphasising its significance in reducing the financial burden on students and enhancing their educational experiences at AMU.
"This scholarship fund will provide invaluable support to many students, enabling them to concentrate on their studies and research without the worry of financial constraints," he remarked.
Dr Sabir's donation represents a substantial contribution to AMU’s ongoing efforts to support student welfare and academic excellence, reinforcing his commitment to nurturing future generations of scholars.
Dr Sabir's Academic & Professional Journey
A native of Barabanki in Uttar Pradesh, Professor Suhail Sabir completed all his academic studies at Aligarh, including his PhD in Chemistry, before securing a position at the university. Dr Sabir stated that his donation was a way of repaying the debt he felt towards both the university and society.
Dr Sabir also expressed gratitude to AMU for accepting his proposal to establish an endowment scholarship fund in his name. He announced that approximately 40 deserving students would benefit from the fund. A committee has also been formed to oversee the distribution of scholarships to those in need.
In addition to his career at AMU, Professor Sabir served as Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) from 2019 to 2020.
