When Will the Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway Be Completed?
As the New Year begins, Lucknow is gearing up for a transformative leap in its infrastructure and connectivity. The city is set to witness the completion and launch of several ambitious projects aimed at improving transportation and facilitating economic growth. From the much-awaited Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway to crucial railway overbridges, these developments promise to enhance daily life and open new avenues for tourism, trade, and logistics.
Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway: To Be Ready by June
The 63-km-long Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway is expected to be operational by June 2025. Once completed, the expressway will significantly reduce travel time between the two cities to just 35 minutes. This project is not just about saving time but also about boosting tourism and trade between the two prominent hubs of Uttar Pradesh.
Key features of the expressway include an 18-km elevated section and a 45-km greenfield segment. The project also involves the construction of 28 small bridges, 38 underpasses, and six flyovers. Approximately 75% of the work has already been completed. The expressway will feature a 45-km, six-lane road stretching from Bani to Unnao.
Moreover, 14 villages in Lucknow will be directly linked to the expressway, including Amousi, Bani, Banthra, Sikandarpur, Behsa, Farrukhabad, Chillawan, Gehru, Gauri, Khandedev, Meeranpur Pinwat, Natkur, and Sarai Shahzadi. This enhanced connectivity will significantly improve access to rural areas, fostering growth and development.
Railway Overbridges to Ease Traffic Congestion
Another critical project nearing completion is the Harouni Railway Overbridge (ROB) on the Lucknow-Kanpur rail section. This bridge is expected to be completed by April 2025, providing relief to commuters from frequent traffic jams caused by the railway crossing gates, which close every 15-20 minutes. The ROB, built at a cost of ₹43 crore, spans 620.43 meters and will benefit a large population in the area.
Similarly, the two-lane overbridge at the Krishnanagar-Kesarikhera crossing is 75% complete and is expected to be ready by October 2025. Once operational, it will simplify the journey between Kanpur Road and Hardoi Road, while also improving accessibility for residents of Nadarganj, Amousi, and Talkatora.
A Gift of Development for Citizens
In addition to the expressway and railway overbridges, several other initiatives are in the pipeline to further enhance urban infrastructure in Lucknow. These projects are expected to bring substantial improvements in traffic flow, reduce travel time, and ensure safer transportation options for the city’s residents.
Economic and Social Impact
The Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway is set to transform connectivity between two key urban centers while incorporating eco-friendly greenfield construction. Similarly, the new overbridges will significantly reduce traffic bottlenecks, providing commuters with a smoother travel experience.
As these projects near completion, they symbolize a new era of growth and modernization for Lucknow. With better infrastructure and an advanced transportation network, the city is poised to attract investments, boost regional tourism, and improve the overall quality of life for its residents.
