CM Yogi Announces India’s First Night Safari to Open in Lucknow; Here's When It Will Open
Lucknow: The Kukrail Forest in Lucknow is set to host India’s first night safari by December 2026, as announced by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Spanning 900 acres, the project aims to provide an unparalleled experience for nature enthusiasts while putting Uttar Pradesh on the global eco-tourism map.
Chairing a high-level meeting, the Chief Minister revealed that the Kukrail Night Safari and Zoo would include attractions like a 7D theatre, an auditorium, a cafeteria accommodating 500 people, and ample parking. Aimed at becoming a global destination for nature lovers, the project has secured in-principle approval from the Central Zoo Authority.
Key Features of the Night Safari
The night safari will feature themed sections, including:
• Indian Walking Trail
• Indian Foothill Trail
• Indian Wetland
• Arid India
• African Wetland
Visitors can explore the safari via a 5.5 km tramway and a 1.92 km walking pathway. The main attractions will include the Asiatic Lion, Bengal Tiger, Leopard, Gharial, Flying Squirrel, and Hyena.
The safari will also house a world-class wildlife hospital and rescue center, alongside 63 enclosures in a zoo that will showcase species like Sarus Cranes, Swamp Deer, Himalayan Bears, South African Giraffes, African Lions, and Chimpanzees.
Sustainable Development
The Chief Minister emphasised sustainability, directing that 72% of the area be maintained as green space and powered by solar energy. Officials were instructed to create an eco-tourism zone and begin processes like identifying and quarantining animals.
The night and day safaris will be developed in phases, with completion expected by June 2026. The existing zoo in Hazratganj will also be relocated to Kukrail, creating a combined day and night experience for visitors.
Adventure and Education
To cater to adventure seekers, the safari will include a Burma bridge, zipline, sky roller, and cycling tracks. A 20-tent facility will allow families to enjoy overnight stays, while the activity area at the entrance will host up to 5,000 visitors at once. Educational features like an interpretation center, open theatre, and knowledge hubs will enhance the visitor experience.
Global Appeal
Modeled after the famous Night Safari in Singapore, Lucknow’s project will be the fifth of its kind in the world. The government is preparing to float global tenders to bring the ambitious design to life.
Once operational, the night safari is expected to become a cornerstone of international tourism, offering an unforgettable blend of adventure, education, and conservation.
